2 Months

Well, today Josephine is officially 2 months old! I can't believe how fast time is going and how much she has grown this month. I don't have her official weight ( I weigh her on Fridays), but she has grown a lot and is becoming a little chatter box. She LOVES her mat time and loves to punch her elephant rattle, and is still picking her head up like a champ. She loves to coo and talk to us and of course is smiling up a storm. She is such a good baby and hasnt met someone she doesn't like yet. She is extremely observant and very alert and loves to take everything in.

She has also started taking notice of the dogs since they are always around her. I've caught her smiling at Simba and Riley's barking doesn't bother her at all. Another big milestone this month is we have transferred her to the crib. She's been in there for about 2 weeks now and is doing really really well. Thank god she is a good sleeper and hasn't minded the change at all. She is still up every 3-4 hours to eat, but that's OK...she's a growing girl.

Here are her monthly photos along with some of the dogs.

want to go back to sleep

Christmastime is Here...

Even though its 60 degrees here, we are still ready for Christmas and can't wait to celebrate! Here are some photos of our decorations. Oh yea, and I have exactly one month until I go back to work....but who's counting :(

Yesterday, Mom and I went shopping and enjoyed the nice weather- Josie enjoyed the day too. I also figured out how to take multiple pictures at once on my camera- score! And on an even better note, I bought a baby scale to keep track of her weight gain in between doctor visits. I am happy to report that this week alone she has gained 12oz! She was at 10lb 15.5oz yesterday and counting. Nick is now calling her chubbs! :)

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite Holiday because of my mothers cooking and this year was even more special. Josephine was the hit of the holiday, and we had such a good time catching up with family and enjoying the nice weather. I thought about getting her one of those lame "It's my first Thanksgiving" outfits, but decided against it ( I did get one for Christmas because well...its Christmas.) Here are some of the photos from this weekend

I asked Frankie to smile and this
is what I got....hahaha he was a wild man!

Happy Friday!

Josephine has started her first Black Friday with a luxurious bath and a nap. Later we will head to German Village to pick up some Bahama Mama's from Schmidt's, and then spend the rest of the day watching the boob tube and putting up Christmas decorations.

Happy Friday

Happy Friday to all! Today Josephine and I have already been busy. We went to my 6 week check up, gave her a bath, doing some laundry, and later we will be making some Paula Deen Pumpkin Bars, taking a walk outside and just enjoying the sunshine.

1 Month Check Up

Sorry for the lack of posting but things here have pretty much been status quo around here- no sleep and lots of poop. However, Josephine had her 1 month check up today and she had a great report. The doctor said she looked great and to keep doing what I'm doing. Here are her stats....

Height- 23 inches
Weight- 9lb 7.5 oz
Head- 15 in

She is in the 98th percentile for height, 45th for weight and 88th for head...whatever that means. I am just so happy that her weight has steadily increased each week and now we don't go back until her 2 month check up.

she had her 2nd Hepatitis B shot-
she only cried for a second

Last Friday we had some special guests stop by! Molly, Joe and Caroline Dolan stopped by ( with dinner! :) ) on their way to Mansfield and we were so happy to see them. Caroline is 6 months old and will be Josephine's BFF and soccer pal for years to come! How can you resist those rosy cheeks!!!

1 Month Old

Holy hell, I can't believe Josephine is 1 month old! Where has the time gone? This first month has definitely flown by and been interesting to say the least. I know everyone says this, but I really do forget what it was like before she came...well not exactly, but for the most part.

The first month was definitely fun and exciting with a new baby and everyone getting used to one another (dogs included) but it wasn't without its difficulties either. The most difficult thing has been breast feeding. I didn't think it would be so difficult but all babies are different and we have really had to work at it during every feeding. After seeing 2 lactation specialists I learned that she wasn't taking in enough milk to gain weight. She was supposed to be back at her birth weight by 2 weeks and we finally got there at 4 weeks. They said this is not unusual and they weren't too concerned that this point because she wasn't losing weight. But of course as a mother I felt terrible and like a failure. After meeting with a lactation consultant last Monday, she discovered that she was a 1/2oz shy on her intake and therefore getting enough to sustain but not gain. So, I have been drinking Milkmaid Tea 3 times a day and pumping 3 times and supplementing 3 feedings with a bottle. Thankfully she has taken to the bottle extremely well, I'm sure it helps that she is so young and doesn't know better at this point. The last thing I really wanted to do was supplement formula so pumping 3 times a day has really helped my supply and gives her extra milk which makes me happy. After doing this method for 3 days she gained 5oz last week! I was so happy to know that things were working and I've never been so happy to see poop in my entire life! At this point she is still eating every 3 hours ( which is really every 2 by the time I'm done) and its really exhausting, especially at night. But once her weight gain is steady I can start letting her sleep through the night and let her wake me when shes hungry.

OK, enough about breast feeding. This is what I know about Josephine so far. She actually is a very calm and good baby. She rarely fuss's and when she does it usually means, dirty diaper, shes tired or hungry. She does NOT like to be pushed and likes to do things in her own time ( hmmm who does that sound like?? ahhh hmm- Nick). She is a very strong girl and has been picking her head up since the day she was born, so we make sure and do lots of mat/tummy time when she is awake. She has a beautiful gummy smile and I love seeing it everyday. She loves her pacifier, bouncy seat, stroller and car rides and looking at mom and dad.
